Many of you experienced Isaac Ludwig’s turnings for the first time last year, with his solo show of rare Honduras Rosewood burl. I knew that the work was outstanding but in all the years I have been presenting shows, I have never had every single collector that purchased a piece from the show (and there were quite a few), take the time to call me and tell me how thrilled they were with their new acquisition. And every one of them said the same thing: “In person, the piece was even more beautiful than they hand imagined it would be and that the craftsmanship of the artist was among the finest they had ever seen.” Not bad testimonials for an artist that has just celebrated his 20th birthday. Yes, the wood was truly amazing but it wasn’t until they held the piece in their hands did they realize what a true treasure they had.

Earlier this year I got a call from Isaac. Julian Sherrard, Isaac’s friend and mentor, had come upon three logs of Belize Zericote wood. It seems that some unscrupulous character had tried to export the logs out of Belize under a phony wood type and Belize customs had confiscated the shipment. The Belize government does not permit the harvesting of Zericote, let alone its export. To make a long story short, Julian obtained the three logs through a customs auction and made them available to Isaac to turn.

When I found out about Isaac’s good fortune, I asked him to turn a couple of pieces for our Turned & Sculpted Wood exhibition. Once I saw the pieces, I knew we had to do a special exhibition of turnings from these logs. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided that Isaac’s second solo exhibition with del Mano would be titled Zericote Landscapes, featuring this rare and unusual wood.

del Mano is pleased to make this collection of 23 pieces, fashioned from rare Belize Zericote, available to its collectors in this solo exhibition: Isaac Ludwig – Zericote Landscapes.
