ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The metamorphosis of a lump of clay into controlled forms has long held my intense  fascination.  My collaboration with this plastic medium has disclosed those myriad of influential elements of design, color, form and philosophy, which issue forth during the making process, while the impact both of nature and of historical art on my aesthetic choices is revealed through my ever evolving body of work.  I fire my own work and make my own glazes, which are thoughtfully chosen to enhance each piece individually.

Having spent four glorious years at school in southern Indiana, my love of the woods and the effect of sunlight filtering through the canopy of leaves on the colors of the forest, have enriched the surfaces of my own work. I have always appreciated the changing seasons and  continue my “walks through the woods”, which for me has become a metaphor for the evolution of creative concepts and ideas, exploration, discovery and renewal.
