ABOUT THE ARTIST

Z Jacobson's work is the embodiment of her exuberant personality. Her ceramic sculpture is organic in nature, and reflects an intensely personal vision which pushes the limits of both clay and color juxtaposition.

She graduated from the University of Michigan with a BFA and attended Richmond College, London, England, and the University of Iowa. Z further studied at Santa Fe Clay, Anderson Ranch and The Armory Art Center in Florida. Early on, she worked in graphic design, jewelry design, creative bread baking, and custom furniture design, before turning to the three dimensional medium of ceramics. With ceramics, she has found the ideal medium with which to create and communicate her unique vision.

Born and raised in Chicago, she relocated to the mountains of NM so that she would have more freedom to bike and hike with her constant canine companions Mogan and Lulubellle. Entering her eclectic home and studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is an invitation to participate in her whimsical world which abounds with color and artwork of all kinds.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Seeing a bright yellow crocus sprout from a brown gravel driveway or gazing up after a storm to see a glorious rainbow inspires my work. I hope to capture
the marvel and joy of these moments.

My current work is about juxtaposition. It is about the challenge of using contrasting elements we choose not to combine; unusual and extreme color palettes, patterns colliding with patterns, textures on different scales, amorphous  contours with spikes. I hope you enjoy and maybe find a rainbow.
