ABOUT THE WORK

“Cicada Songs”

Last Spring I raised 92 silkworms from tiny caterpillars to beautiful moths. It was an insightful time of watching, and observing the small details of their daily life. This experience inspired the wing like shapes and vibrancy of the work.

"Red Truth Chamber"

Hand painting the tiny red areas around the kozo dots mesmerized me as the power of the red color strengthened. The horsehair and stitching on the inner chamber pieces speaks of the truths we intuit.

"Ceremonial Leaf Presence"

Someone surprised me with a gift of a wild artichoke flower. I was crazy about the intriguing zigzag leaves, and used two of them in this piece. The beaten kozo fiber forms a strong container for the green and chestnut field of dots.  I used a pattern from drawings of the silkworm caterpillars.
