ARTIST'S STATEMENT
To create my contemporary baskets, my chosen methods are knotting, netting, crochet and beading, used alone or in combination. I mostly use hand-dyed nylon cord and cotton thread as well as a variety of novelty yarns.

Each piece contains a form that has been carved and/or sculpted, although I have applied my techniques using homegrown gourds with their shape and size naturally determined.

Working on a small scale, there can be limitations. A balance must be maintained so that the surface area is not overworked and the inherent integrity and identity of the small size is maintained. I have found the process of this form of expression, while at times tedious and time intensive, holds a hypnotic rhythm I like. The combination of positive energy and spiritual thought bring my ideas to creative realization.
