ABOUT THE ARTIST
The finely crafted bowl forms of Craig Leeds balance form and the natural beauty of wood. The works feature a polished finish of great clarity that enhances the wood’s many colors and grain, while allowing it to retain a natural appearance.
The artist’s work is slowly evolving, with subtle changes that reflect an ongoing exploration of form and great attention to detail. Some of his recent works feature raised stands so the work seemingly floats in space which adds to the serene nature of his delicate forms.
Trained as a biologist, Craig Leeds followed his passion into woodworking and subsequently, became a designer and builder of fine furniture. A renowned conservator and restoration expert, he worked for many years as conservator to the Lipton Collection as well as with artists, museums and collectors from around the world. These years of working so closely with work from the world’s finest turners, has distilled his artistic vision and led him to create work that has been compared with that of master woodturners James Prestini, Bert Marsh, and Bob Stocksdale.
