ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My architectural training was key to the development of this recent sculptural work. I thank Naum Gabo the sculptor and one of the fathers of Constructivism who encouraged me as a high school student in England. His influence was very important to the development of modernism.
In 2009 I devised a system of construction that produces a sense of elegance. Creating sculptures that though fragile are balanced and give us a sense of delicately holding turmoil at bay. These sculptures initiate a connection between what is tangible and intangible, between what is both simplistic and complex.
The real stuff of my sculptures is not the physical materials, but the perception of space, time and movement.
In "Blue Triangles", you can sense the calmness of the space in between. It seems to have continuous growth and a strong rhythm, more implicit and deeper than the chaotic patterns of life itself. The form leads the viewer to imagine journeying into, through, over and around the sculpture.
